Book clips

This page will be in constant change. I normally work on more than one book at a time, but currently I only have one solo project(I'm co-writing two others). My latest work is called, "Kansas", and if all goes well... I hope to turn it into a trilogy.

So here is the intro, and then a small clip! Tell me what you think and I may add another!

16 year-old Kansas Daniela Hawk had the perfect life. Growing up in Beverly Hills, nothing was out of her reach, or price-range. Life was easy and perfect, until it came to a screeching halt August 15th 2010, unlike the semi truck that took the lives of both her parents.
Now she’s being shipped almost to the other side of the country, far away from soy-milk, skinny lattes, Chanel perfume, Malibu beach and Gucci bags. Her new home is in Faith, Alabama. The smallest town known to mankind, or at least it is as far as Dani is concerned.
Does God really have a plan for her life, like Mamaw Brooke claims? Or is her grandma just the crazy old woman everyone makes her out to be?

ENJOY!!

Todd smiled as a familiar blond started his direction. Her jean ruffle skirt swayed with each step, and her chunky blond curls bounced as her heels clicked.
“Well hey there, girl. Ready to head out?”
Dani smiled. “Yeah, sorry I’m late, I had some questions for Mr. Clancy.”
“I still can’t believe you’re taking Calc your junior year,” Todd shook his head. “kinda crazy.”
“Well, I could tutor you in your class so it’s not that crazy.”
Todd’s laughter was dry. “Let’s not go announcing that I may or may not need tutoring to the entire student body.”
Dani looked around the empty parking lot and chuckled. “Todd… this place is more empty than the beach on Christmas morning in Alaska. No one is going hear about your academic ‘issues’.”
“Just get in the truck, crazy.”
Kansas climbed into the passenger seat, tossing her bag in the back seat and turning up the radio.
An' she don't even know,
That she keeps me lookin' for the next right thing to do,
'Cause she don't tell me to.
“After Rascal Flatts, Montgomery Gentry is the most amazing guy group in country.”
“Where have you been my whole life?” The driver said sarcastically, laughing freely as he turned out onto the road. “You love horses, you love country music and you speak your mind, definitely not like any of the girls here.”
“When you grow up with a mother raised in the country, and a father who’s a prosecute lawyer I’m what you end up with.”
Todd smiled, his gaze settling on her for just a moment. “There ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.”

“So…” The fiery redhead popped another double-stuffed Oreo in her mouth. “do you have a dress picked out for homecoming?”
Kansas flipped her History textbook page. “Homecoming?”
“Yeah,” Taylor smiled. “you know, when a ton of teens get together in a gymnasium and dance to catchy-annoying songs and pretend their having the night of their life except whoever is crowned King and Queen.”
“I know what homecoming is, Tay” The blond laughed. “trust me, back home, the only thing that was bigger than homecoming was prom and the end of the year Senior’s party.”
“So again I ask,” Taylor closed her algebra textbook. “where’s the amazing designer dress you’ll be wearing?”
   “I’m not going.”
“Wait…” The freckle-faced girl looked stunned. “you’re not? Why? Homecoming is like, mandatory. Everyone goes, everyone. Especially juniors and seniors.”
Kansas sighed heavily. “I’m not a party girl, Taylor. Dances aren’t my scene.”
Taylor crossed her arms in front of her Alabama State sweatshirt. “How can that be? You just told me that back home dances were everything.”
“For most people,” Dani sighed. “I always bailed.”
“Why? Don’t you enjoy dressing up and dancing with some hot guys?”
“Taylor!” Kansas laughed, tossing a crumpled piece of notepaper in the other girl’s direction. “I cannot believe those words came out of your mouth!”
“Why not? Just because I sport a purity ring and a cross around my neck doesn’t me that I don’t have hormones!”
Kansas giggled as the textbooks hit the floor. “Yeah, I guess. But still, a little weird.”
“You didn’t give me an answer.” Taylor sat up, making the bed bounce. “Why’d you always bail?”
   “It’s not my scene.”
“Liar.”
“Tay, I’m serious.” Kansas reached for an Oreo. “I have no interest in that stuff.”
“Oh,” The redhead’s shoulders slouched as she sulked. “well, then do you mind if I maybe ask Todd to the dance?”
Kansas stopped mid-bite. Todd? Why would Taylor ask her about Todd?
“Todd? As in… Todd Anderson?”
   “Yeah, your Todd.”
MY TODD?!
“My Todd?” Kansas laughed, there was no way that was what people actually thought… right? “People seriously think that we’re…”
“A couple? Kinda,” Taylor finished off another cookie and Dani’s sentence. “I mean, you two are always together. You’re in almost all the same classes, you eat lunch together, you’re chemistry partners, you live on the same ranch, you—”
“Okay, okay” Kansas laughed nervously. “I get the picture.”
“So…” Taylor bit her lip. “are you two an item or can I ask him?”
“No,” Dani sighed. “I mean yes… yes you can ask him. We’re definitely not an item.”
“Sweet,” Taylor reached for her textbook. “and after that, I’ll find you a date and we can double!”
Kansas rolled her baby blues and sighed. “I already told you… I’m not going.”
And there is no way she can talk me into it.
